Confirmation is always a necessary step in the fabrication of attachment retained prosthetics. Although I provide an activated base that verifies seating, we not only need to confirm that they engage, but also that there is no uneven engagement. This can be evident by a heavy scrape or hang on the wall of the cap. Spotting things like that at this stage offers the chance to select the extended range version of the locator/attachment before it becomes a situation weeks after post-delivery.
Making a separate jig allows for “easily visible” affirmation.
Nothing is worse than disrupting that “new car” smell the patient experiences after delivery of a new prosthetic.
Scrap light cure tray material is used to construct the jig. It is made in conjunction with the baseplate step to not lose an appointment.
